What is Greener Together?
Founded in 2021, our Greener Together initiative explores ways in which libraries can help to mitigate climate change, raise awareness of the global climate challenges that we face, and support individuals and local communities who want to take practical steps towards leading a greener, lower carbon lifestyle.
Free access to information is at the heart of the library service. We’ve been helping Gloucestershire residents access the information they need for many years now. As libraries, it’s what we do! We want to make it easy for everyone to find reliable information about the key issues at the forefront of the climate change emergency via our network of county libraries. We want to join in the conversation, and we want to make a difference too. We are committed to developing more sustainable working practices within our own teams and taking action alongside our communities, so that we can all go greener, together.
Small steps, big impact
We can all do something to help make our vision of a greener future a reality, and even if our efforts feel small to start with, they really do add up. Collectively, we can make a big difference. What’s more, doing our bit to help the environment can also improve our own wellbeing, both physical and mental. Many of us enjoy spending time outdoors, whether it be feeding the garden birds or taking a walk around the local park. Taking time to appreciate and care for the natural world benefits both us, and the planet.

Whether you’re actively looking for ways to make changes, or just want to learn more about climate change, check out your local library. We have been busy curating an all new Climate Collection - a range of practical, informative, and engaging books to help create conversation around climate change, and provide you with reliable, up to date reading material.
Our collection covers a range of topics, from reducing our carbon footprint to growing our own vegetables, recycling and upcycling, food waste reduction and the different ways in which we can protect and appreciate our natural world.
