Gloucestershire Libraries will be officially launching “Space to Create” in January 24, which will provide young people a platform to learn new skills and inspire potential careers within the digital creative industry.

The project is a key strand of Gloucestershire Libraries National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) status, funded by the Arts Council for 3 years. Space to create will work with industry specialists, artists, and practitioners to deliver a series of masterclasses & skills camps helping 16–24-year-olds to learn new skills to improve career prospects in these industries.

We are programming a range of masterclasses and skills camps linked to digital careers, including stock-animation, 3D modelling, photography, digital design, and music production. Immersive Reality will be supporting us to work with young people to develop 360 content that can be showcased in the immersive space at Oakley.

Working directly with partners such GCC Virtual School & Pupil Referral Unit, as well as the Department of Work and Pensions, Bespoke Mentoring and Young Gloucestershire, the project will identify and offer workshops to specific underrepresented groups and NEETS (not in education, employment of training).

Space to Create will offer lots of opportunities for collaboration, working with Gloucestershire Archives to roll out their catalogue of historic images through immersive experiences, as well as linking with the NPO Ageing with Creativity reminiscence and intergenerational projects.

We will be working with other partners such as Immersive Reality – designing new 360 content for our immersive space at Oakley for educational partners in literacy, storytelling, training & learning and working with students and lecturers in a range of digital media from the University of Gloucestershire.
